Trees and Shrubs
• Plant trees, shrubs and Roses, adding peat and bonemeal to the soil and watering well.
• Mid-September to mid-October is an ideal time to plant Conifers and other evergreens.
• Prepare sites for new hedges by adding proprietary manure or peat and digging it in well.

Flowers
• This is the best month to choose and plant your spring bulb selection.
• Many hardy annuals can be sown now to over winter and flower next spring.

Fruit
• Cut down Raspberry canes that have fruited to the ground.
• Plant tree and bush fruit. Remember that trained forms like fans, cordons and espaliers are
tailor-made for walls and fences.

Vegetables
• Lift main crop Potatoes when the leaves have died down.
• Plant out Spring Cabbage.
• First early Onion Sets can be planted now for an early crop next year.

Lawns
• Apply a weed and moss killer before spiking and raking over the lawn.
• If feeding be sure to choose an autumn treatment.
• September is a good month to sow a new lawn or patch up an existing one.

Greenhouse
• In cold areas lift tender perennials like Geraniums and Fuchsias and pot them up for the over wintering under glass.
• Clean the glass and staging with a cleanser and wash off any liquid shading.
• Buy bubble lining to cut heating costs. Check over your heater well in advance of the first frost.

Houseplants
• Reduce watering and feeding as growth slows down.
• Pot up prepared Hyacinth bulbs to flower at Christmas and put in a cool dark place.

Don't Forget
• Compost as much waste as possible adding an activator to speed up rotting.
